The Original Music of Scott Calamar
Free MP3s!
Perhaps the most enjoyable facet of my life is writing, recording, and playing music. Since the age of 12, I've written more than 200 songs and "multi-tracked" just about every one of them. Through the convenience of the Web, I invite you to listen to and download MP3 files of my music.
Old and new Calamar songs alike are being performed in Southern Oregon by our band Wine Without Reason, featuring Kevin McKern on drums and Bruce McKern on bass, with Pegi Smith on violin, and Joe Diehl on guitar. I play keys, a bit of guitar, and attempt to sing lead. Check the band website for gigs, MP3s, pictures, and more!
For additional songs visit The Smatter Site, the mythical band that plays every thirty years, weather permitting. Listen to the fabulous music made by the band and my musical comrades during the 1970s and a couple of subsequent reunions.Below you'll find a listing of all my solo songs, organized by album. Click the underlined links to hear a song; clips are between 3 and 9MB. Generally, a player window (QuickTime, Windows Media, RealPlayer, etc.) should pop up. If it doesn't and you lose the page you were viewing, simply press your browser's Back button when the clip is finished. Otherwise, just close the clip window after it's done.
If you're hip and happening, you can download these MP3s to your computer for free! As a song is playing, look under the File menu of your browser to see if the Save As link is available and, if so, click it. If not, from this page, right-click on a song link (if you're cool enough to use a Mac, hold down the Control key while you click) and then, from the pop-up menu, click Download (Linked) File. Once downloaded, feel free to add my songs to your iTunes library by dragging them to an iTunes playlist. You can then copy the music to your iPod. If you use another MP3 program and player (shame on you!), copy and transfer the songs as you normally would. If you'd rather not spend the time downloading, ask me for DigItAll--a disc of almost 100 MP3 files that you can copy to your PC.

I constantly revise this compilation of my "notable songs." This is the best place to start if you want a "sampler" CD of my music. Unfortunately I tend to like more songs than will fit on one CD (and a double "Best of" seems pretentious). Hence the benefit of my MP3 CD--or just downloading files from this page! Give these a listen and go from there. You'll also find all songs but the first two on the albums below.

My most recent multitracked studio album picks up where Forté left off, so some songs date back to the late '90s. It also includes two songs from the '70s that I'd never gotten a chance to record before. The use of a 16-track Korg digital deck on most songs provides the best sound quality yet.

Arguably (I debate myself all the time!) my best album. I have remastered it to remove hiss and improve sound.

And these songs were written when I was 14 through 17 so expect that sort of quality--they're not something you'd listen to today (unless, maybe you're 12?). But those who knew me back then may remember some and be curious. It's also cool what I have been able to do with noise suppression (and stereo simulation) software to restore them.

I didn't completely ignore this album. The above album includes multi-track re-recordings of these tunes so I opted for those.

Back to the beginning, yup, the quality of the music is similar to the quality of the cover drawing. These few tunes are posted for "curiosity," they were written when I was 12 and 13, and recorded on a cheap and noisy two-track tube reel to reel. Even with restoration software, the quality remains horrible, but I have included a select few in the name of making my "complete catalog" available. "What I've Come For," which sounds a lot like "Heart and Soul" on the piano (except for the appropriate warpage), is the first song I wrote--the background vocals are my "little sister." Obviously you're better off downloading my more recent compositions. Thanks for listening.
